DIVISIONS WITHIN THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH

Department of Justice
The Department of Justice provides legal guidance and services to the Council, chapters, divisions and programs within the Executive Branch, and other govermental agencies, The Attorney General provides supervision to the Department of Justice, Prosecutor's Office, Juvenile Justice and Navajo-Hopi Legal Services programs.

Division of Community Development
This Division assists communities in becoming self-sufficient and self-governing entities; improves the standards of living for Navajo familiesand individuals by facilitating increased construction of new homes and rehabilitationof existing homes; provides infrastructure planning and development for future growth of communities; and fosters the growth of communities by adopting the most current economical and technical advances. Other programs assisting the division to accomplish it's purpose include: - Local Governance Support Services - Capital Improvement Office - Navajo Housing Services Department - Navajo Department of Transportation

Division of Dine' Education
Dine' Education provides technical assistance, coordinates educational services and fosters the educational development of all Navajos. Incoporating Navajo culture, language and history ensures these tasks are culturally-relevant, sensitive and appropiate. The division is comprised of the programs listed:

Division of Economic Development
The division works to attract outside investment onto the Navajo Nation, helps existing businesses to expand, utilize tourism to bring in new revenues, and provides grants to support businesses development. Other programs within this division include:

Environment Protection Agency
This agency establishes environmental policies, protects the public health, represents the Navajo Nation with environmental health issues and concerns, and provides a central repository of information relating to environmental protection within and near the Navajo Nation.

Division of General Services
the Division of General Services oversees Navajo Nation Air Transportation, Communication and Utilities, Computer Services, Employee Housing, Facilities Maintenance, Fleet Management and Insurance Services. The Navajo Transit System and Records Management are also programs within the division.

Division of Health
The Division of Health strives to increase the years of healthy, productive and functional lives for Navajo people; reduce the rates or mortality, morbidty and disability among Navajo individuals; and provide comprehesive community health care and health education. Other programs within this division include:

Division of Human Resources
Consolidating all human resource programs and activities of the Navajo Nation government within the single division in order to faciliate effective management and deliver of human resource programs and services in a comprehensive manner is the responsibilty of this division. The Division of Human Resources provides these services through the Departments of Personnel Management, Employment and Training, Veterans Affairs and Public Services.

Division of Natural Resources
The Division of Natural Resources provides for the protection, restoration, conservation, management, and sustainable development of all Navajo natural, cultural, and historic resources. These responsibilities are executed throught the following departments: Agriculture, Archealogy, Navajo Fish & Wildlife, Navajo Foresty, Historic Preservation, Land Administration, Minerals, Parks and Recreation, Resource Enforcement, Abandoned Mine & Land Reclamation and Water Development.

Division of Public Safety
The Navajo Nation Division of Public Safety plans, organizes, and administers all aspects of the Navajo Nation Public Safety programs in order to meet the needs of the Navajo people and visitors. Futhermore, it exercises control and authority over the law enforcement and public safety activities within the Navajo Nation and designated areas.

Division of Social Services
The overall missions of the Division of Social Services is to provide essential social services to needy families and individuals living on or near the Navajo Nation and to others as mandated by statutes and regulations. The services provided are consistent with the profressional social work ethics and in accordance to Navajo cultural values.

Office of Navajo-Hopi Land Commission
The Navajo-Hopi Land Commission assists in resolving claims to Navajo lands by other Indian Tribes and rehabilitates areas affected by such claims. Title Two of the Navajo Nation Code authorizes Council Delegates, who serve as Commissioners, to provide direction, policy, and decision-making in regards to Navajo-Hopi, and Navajo-San Juan Southern Paiute land disputes. The Commission is established within the Legislative Branch, while the Navajo-Hopi Land Commission Office is established within the Executive Branch to implement and perform day-to-day activities.

Division of Finance
The Division of Finance provides direction, coordination, and systems and procedures to support the following departments: General Services, Facilities Maintenance, Workers Compensation, Retirement, Credit services, Purchasing Services, Property Management and Financial Services. This division also assists with preparing comprehensive financial statements of all Navajo Nation expenditures, collecting revenue, and insuring that investments are properly acocunted for.

Office of Management and Budget
The Office of Management and Budget directs and coordinates the preparation, development, review and approval of the Navajo Nations annual operating budget. This office also serves as a central management information system to aid in executive and legislative decision-making for Navajo Nation planning, budgetting, and evaluation. The Office of Contracts and Grants is the only other program within the Office of Management and Budget

Office of Taxation
The Office of Taxation is responsible for reviewing and studying all sources of wealth and income within the Navajo Nation. The office also studies all possible revenues from other sources, in order to develop an appropiate, comprehensive system of taxation. It also lays and collects taxes on property, sales, and inventory on the Navajo Nation.

Navajo Nation Washington Office
The Navajo Nation Washington Office serves as a liason between the Navajo Nation government and the federal government. This office strives to enhance the success of the Navajo Nation government's goals and objectives by strengthening control and influence over the activities of the federal government. Office of the Public Defender The purpose of the Office of the Navajo Public Defender is to provide criminal legal defense services to indigent individuals. The Public Defender is appointed by the Navajo Nation and Family Courts.
