Welcome to the Navajo Nation Council Website. By Recommendation of the Commission on Navajo Government Development, this publication is intended to provide general information on the Navajo Nation's three branch government. Several changes within the Navajo Nation have occurred since our last informational brochure. In an effort to eliminate duplication of services, cost-save, and decentralize essential governmental functions to the five Navajo agencies, mergers of several programs from within the Legislative and Executive Branches of government have occured, including the establishment of a new program called the Navajo Nation Local Governance Support Center with the Division of Community Development. Moreover, the chapter governments are currently in the process of implementing various provisions of the Navajo Nation Local Governance Act and the Navajo Nation Council approved a first-ever Gasoline Excise Tax.

The present Navajo Nation government is relatively new. The Commission on Navajo Government Development and the leadership of the Navajo Nation are committed to improving the governmental system and making the Navajo Nation Government work better for the Navajo People.
